If you read my last post (my March favorites), you know how much I love my Adidas Stan Smiths. I kept seeing these shoes all over the place, particularly on Pinterest, which prompted me to start a street style board. You’ll see that the trend I’m loving is sneakers with everything. I wear sneakers with a lot of outfits – here I wore them with a turtleneck and here I wore them with a skirt! Eventually, I started thinking that I too, needed a pair of these famed shoes with a tennis player’s face stamped on them. (Stan Smith is a retired tennis player. I obviously didn’t know this until I Googled him..let’s be real.) The reason why I bit the bullet and bought a pair is because of how versatile they are. I’m not really a fan of shoes (or anything for that matter) that you can only wear once or twice a year. Since they are so plain, they go with everything.
Update February 2018: Amazon Prime has Stan Smiths here for those of you who like free, fast shipping! I like the free return option if you are not sure about your sizing and want to order two different pairs. Nordstrom is currently sold out so I recommend Zappos, where the shipping is free as well.
On this rainy, spring day I decided to just wear them with a white button down and a utility jacket. A pretty standard outfit for days where I’m just hanging out at home and going to a casual happy hour. (Not a usual day in the life for me, by the way, I just happened to be on break at this time haha.)
A note on the sizing and fit for Stan Smiths – some websites will recommend you size down a whole size but I went with a half size smaller. I normally wear 7.5’s but these 7’s are great. I could probably try a 6.5 but I thought it would be too uncomfortable to break them in. They run wider so if you have really narrow feet, I’m not sure these will be the best option for you – but you would probably do better going a whole size down. The best option is to try them on in store, but if you can’t find them near you, try ordering a whole size and a half size down. You can return shoes for free if you buy them at Nordstrom here. I find that they are really comfortable! My only complaints are the short shoelaces and how the shoe seems to puff out a lot on the sides of the tongue. I’m getting slight flashbacks to when kids at my middle school would wear those awful skateboarding shoes. All that aside…these are great, classic shoes.
