You guys. I know I sound like a broken record but how is April over already? April has always been my favorite month because it’s my birthday month! Although no one seems to enjoy getting older, I am grateful to celebrate another birthday. Life is a blessing, after all. April was filled with fun from events, seeing people I love, accomplishing goals (like reading a book and finally finding a dentist in Seattle), traveling to Canada, and getting a bunch of fun things in the mail. I also had a really great month in terms of connecting with current and new readers here on my blog and on social media. I can’t say enough how much the community that comes with blogging makes the work worth it.
Before I start rambling more, let’s just get into the favorites from April shall we? I am always happy to answer questions you might have so please feel free to shoot me an email! Instagram DM is okay too, but I like old fashioned email :) firstname.lastname@example.org
–Marc Jacobs Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter: I know this is pricey for a highlighter but this bottle will last forever. This isn’t one of those products that’s just beautiful from the packaging, but the highlight itself is really pretty. The gel has a very faint, pleasant tropical scent and a little goes a long way. I found that fingers are the best way to blend it into the skin. Since Influenster sent this to me to review, I’ve worn this every single day and have received a lot of compliments on it! Thank you Influenster and the Marc Beauty team for the complimentary product!
–Whal Myung Skin elixir: I received this in a PR package during the Kbeauty pop-in at Nordstrom and have been using it ever since. Not only is the packaging beautiful, the spray nozzle is functional and is the perfect fine mist for the product. I’m currently using a fairly intense skincare regimen (more details soon!) and this is the perfect addition. I use the mist at night and pat it into my skin to retain moisture. If you’ve ever used some form of Vitamin A (most commonly used in the form of Retinol) you know it can make your skin very dry at first. This is the perfect way to calm and soothe my skin while also moisturizing any dry spots. I also love the fresh scent. It’s sold out at Nordstrom, but you can buy it from the website directly.
–Big Little Lies: Jared and I binge watched this one weekend and when I saw it was based on a book, I realized it sounded familiar. I’ve had the book on my “to read” list since last fall but I completely forgot about it! The series has amazing acting from big names like Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman and a great soundtrack. It is definitely heavy and some things are hard to watch but it’s realistic. I hope that after watching this people realize how important it is to be transparent to at least those in your support system so that when your life isn’t a walk in the park, you can get the right help. It’s completely okay to not be okay.
–Molly Moon’s Scoop Shop Candle: To no one’s surprise, I’m obsessed with this candle from Molly Moon’s collaboration with Capitol Hill Candle Co. The heavenly scent of waffle cones and ice cream in my own home?! Yes please. It is my favorite ice cream shop, after all. See other merchandise online here or visit a shop for more! (If you’re in need of a cozy pullover, I highly recommend the ice cream one. I wear mine so much!)
What I’ve been eating…
Random, but hey I once included cauliflower in a monthly favorites posts. I have been turning to Pinterest a lot for meal ideas and recently loved making this quinoa and turkey stuffed bell pepper recipe. I’ve also loved cubing golden sweet potatoes, tossing them with olive oil and garlic salt/pepper, then throwing them in the oven. They are also great to mix in with other veggies and with some kind of sauce, you have a really easy and healthy dinner. Search ‘buddha bowl’ on Pinterest if you’re looking for some healthy veggie dinners. I’m not vegetarian so I like to add lean proteins in. And just to be transparent, I’ve had lots of cake and even Taco Bell once in the past week. Balance, y’all.
What I’m reading…
Its been over 6 months since I last wrote about books I’ve been reading! (The last one I wrote about was Feminist Fight Club.) I recently got a new library card after moving into a new county so I don’t have an excuse anymore not to check some new books out. Reading one book a month was a recent goal of mine and while it may seem easy, that’s kind of the point. It’s easily attainable while I start to dip my toes back into reading in my spare time.
The first book I checked out has been on my list since I saw the movie in October. I was walking by the featured books shelf and The Girl on the Train caught my eye. I normally don’t like books that switch between characters’ POVs but the diary style really added to the plot. If you liked the movie, I highly recommend the book. It was still eerie even if I knew the plot from watching the movie.
I also remembered to grab the nook that I left at my parents’ house when I visited. As much as I prefer reading from a physical book, a tablet is nice for when I don’t have time (or am lazy) to go to the library. Being able to get free ebooks worked out for me during this busy week! I am currently making my way through After You by Jojo Moyes. So far it doesn’t seem as sad as Me Before You but I’m not ruling out tears yet. I was a blubbering mess when I read the first book. It is heartbreaking but such a good read!
Let me know if you have any book recommendations! I would love to hear them.
