Happy Monday!! I hope you all had an amazing weekend. I’m not a football fan (surprise, surprise) so to me the biggest event of the weekend was Kylie Jenner announcing the birth of her baby. If you haven’t seen the video she had produced for her daughter, you have to go watch it!
Much of my weekend was spent doing chores like unpacking from our trip last week and deep cleaning the apartment. Jared and I did manage to get out and spend some time together before we did our own things on Sunday. We went to Momiji (our new favorite sushi spot in the neighborhood) and watched the movie 12 Strong afterwards. Then on Sunday I met up with my friend Jenn for brunch at Super Six, a yummy spot in Columbia City. I highly recommend the eggs benedict but Jenn’s chicken and bubble waffle looked amazing too!
I have so much to share with you guys from our California trip last week but since my last blog post was about our Hawaii trip, I wanted to break it up a bit. If you’re new around here then you can expect a monthly roundup of some of my favorite things around the end of the month or beginning of the next month. I talk about anything and everything – once I even wrote about cauliflower. (Yes, you read that right.) Anyway, if you want to see what some of my past favorites have been then just click the favorites tab on the right.
Ollie Quinn Relle Eyeglasses
Glasses are a new accessory for me as I don’t need to wear a prescription to see clearly (yet). I’m just waiting for the day that that happens because my entire family wears glasses! When I stopped into my favorite eyewear store in the neighborhood I was expecting to just get a pair of sunglasses. After chatting with the awesome team there, I learned that glasses can still benefit someone like me. I work in front of a computer for over 8 hours a day. Oh, and I’m headache-prone. So I got a pair of the trendiest glasses with the blue protect coating which reduces eye strain by blocking the harmful blue rays from screens!
The pair I’m wearing below are called the Relle and I have them in gold. They’re super lightweight which is nice because I don’t even realize I’m wearing them throughout the work day! I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to find many options since I have a low nose bridge but there were so many options. They can also add nose pads to any pair of glasses!

In my next blog post I’ll share some more photos of Jared and I both sporting our Ollie Quinn sunglasses. We love Ollie Quinn products but we’re also big fans of the shop. It’s just a few minutes away from our apartment and the warm, inviting space can also be used as a co-working space. I can’t wait to bring my laptop in there sometime to do some blog work! You can stop in to check in some glasses and just plop down on their comfy couch or sit at their table to hang out or work too!
If you’ve been following my Instagram stories then you probably noticed I’ve been watching a lot more movies than usual in the past month. That’s because I got a MoviePass! Costco had a deal so that it was only $90 for a year-long membership. Essentially it’s a membership that lets you see a movie in theaters every 24 hours, just for a monthly price of $10. (If you’re confused by how they make money, welcome to the club.)
Since we live just a few minutes from downtown Seattle we can literally walk to two different movie theaters any evening or weekend to see a movie! It’s kind of embarrassing…or maybe I should be proud to say this, but Jared and I have seen 8 movies since the beginning of January already!
Some favorite movies have been:
-Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri (I didn’t expect to like this because dramas aren’t my first genre of choice but it was as good as everyone says it is. All of the acting was incredible. It’s not the easiest to watch at times but there are also other times that will have you laughing. The only thing that would have made it better for me is if the ending had some more closure.)
-Molly’s Game (This is extremely different from I, Tonya however the two have some sort of similarity I suppose. I felt that Molly’s Game was more exciting and fast paced, but I particularly liked the format since Molly narrates the movie. In I, Tonya it also has an interview aspect which felt kind of choppy.)
-The Shape of Water (Truthfully this was a pretty weird concept, but it was so artistically done. I loved the music in this.)
I’ve raved about this cardigan a lot since I’ve gotten it. No surprise here, but anything gray and cozy is right up my alley. Bonus points because you can get it on Amazon Prime! I wore this while traveling to and from California last week and it was actually a versatile piece during the trip too. Turns out it gets pretty cold at night so you still need something cozy to bundle up in. Check it out here.
Amazon Fire for Reading
One of my goals for the new year was to read more for fun! I grew up being a total bookworm but reading hasn’t been a priority as I’ve been busier with other hobbies. Right after the new year my company actually gave us all gifts. My gift happened to be an Amazon Fire tablet. This is a really affordable option for a tablet that really does it all – you can use it as an e-reader, to watch movies, listen to music, check email, etc. The best part is that I can get free books from the library or from Prime Reading.
If you’re not an Amazon Prime member you can sign up for a 30 day free trial first. All of the Fire tablets are on major sale right now until February 13th! Save up to $30 on Fire tablets – starting at $39.99.
In January I only finished one book but it was a good one!! I read the second book in Kevin Kwan’s series called China Rich Girlfriend. It’s one of those guilty pleasure reads with tons of drama. I’m super excited to start the final book and for the movie to come out! Those of you that are new to the series, this is the first book in the series.
I’m currently reading Into the Water but I’m not sure about it yet…it’s hard to follow! I’ll keep you guys posted if I even finish reading it.
I’m going to work on my California recap post throughout this week so look out for that soon! Have a great week :)
