Happy Memorial Day if you’re in the States! It seems like every holiday is now advertised as a great shopping opportunity because of the sales. While there were tons of sales to shop, I hope we all remember the real reason why we have this day off – to remember those who gave their lives while serving our country. I definitely welcomed this long weekend with open arms and a huge smile. I’m feeling super inspired and rested now, so it’s the perfect time to share some of my favorites from the past month don’t ya think? It’s the little things, I always say!
–Old Navy shift dress: This dress is the most worn item from my closet this month. Black doesn’t exactly scream summer but you guys know how much I love neutrals. It’s just the easiest outfit because I can wear literally any jacket over the dress and call it good. I bought it weeks ago off the clearance rack and I still saw many sizes of the dress available for $8 yesterday, at the downtown Seattle store! My favorite thing about the dress isn’t how versatile it is, rather the quality. It’s a really thick, durable fabric which goes to show that you don’t always have to spend a fortune for quality.
–Too Cool for School: If anyone’s interested, I’ll share a more thorough review of this brand as I’ve accumulated quite a collection of TCFS items. It has quickly become my favorite Korean brand because of the unique concepts and quality. Of course, it helps that the brand is now easily accessible as you can find it at Sephora, Nordstrom, etc. The two products that I used frequently throughout May are two foaming skincare products. How cute is this packaging from one of the packages I received from them recently??
I’ve also been using the cleanser a few times a week, in the mornings. The gel cleanser from the regimen can be heavier than I need in the AM so I use this occasionally. Not only is it fun because of the mousse texture but it’s really gentle. A lot of cleansers that foam up seem to strip the skin but this one leaves your skin feeling clean yet comfortable. It also has a pleasant scent.
–Suncreens: On the top of skincare, I have to talk about two of the sunscreens I’ve been using every day. This Alchimie Forever one is so light yet still moisturizing that I love to use it on days when I know I won’t be out in direct sunlight. For days like this past Saturday when we explored Leavenworth, I have been using a heavier duty sunscreen. This one from Obagi is SPF 50 and leaves a matte finish so any of my combination/oily skin type ladies – you’ll like this one. Now I just need to find a good sunscreen for my body. If anyone has any recommendations, help a girl out! I currently am using this COOLA spray but it leaves me feeling soo greasy. I like the convenience of a spray but I’m not digging the greaseball feeling.
–Baking: As in, baking with setting powder. Unfortunately not baking any cupcakes around here in this 80 degree weather. This has been the most critical step in my makeup routine, other than applying sunscreen, as of late. I’ve tried primer after primer to help with my oily t-zone but nothing really helps. During one of my recent trips to Sephora, the person assisting me suggested baking instead of messing with a primer. Not to be dramatic but…that tip was LIFE CHANGING*.
*Sarcasm, by the way. Basically after I’ve done my face makeup, I let it sit for a few minutes as it usually has some tackiness to it. Then I use a puff (currently using the softest puff from Burberry beauty) to pack on some loose powder on my t-zone. I usually curl my hair or something that takes a few minutes while I let the powder “bake”. Finally, I just take a really fluffy brush to buff the powder into my skin. The key is to blend it in instead of brushing the excess off your face. This has really helped set my makeup unlike anything else! Pictured is this Mario Badescu Special Healing powder. It’s not my favorite, but it works just fine and it’s cheap.
–ELF Highlighter: Last time I talked about the Marc Jacobs gel highlighter that I’ve been loving but as the weather has gotten hotter, I’ve been opting for powder makeup products. I got this highlighter compliments of Influenster months ago and was pretty unimpressed by it at first. The payoff seemed mediocre until I realized the top layer needed to be wiped off a bit with tissue. Now the highlight is so pigmented and a little dusting of it goes a long way! I’ll probably be using this throughout the summer because it’s light and the lasting power is great. Also, can’t beat something under $5.
What I’m watching…
I finished up Grey’s Anatomy season 13 this week and OH MY GOSH. It was a stressful ending!! If you didn’t know, Grey’s is my favorite show ever and I’ve been obsessed with it for years and years. I probably shouldn’t have started watching it at the age that I did, but oh well. When they killed off McDreamy I swore I would never watch the show again, but I’ve been loyally watching. I have to say the last few episodes have really picked up in excitement and make me excited about the show again.
I’m finishing up the latest season of Grace and Frankie on Netflix. It’s a good wind down with wine type of show :) Jared and I are also watching Ray Donovan, a Showtime series. It kind of reminds me of Scandal however it’s the entertainment industry rather than government. So far so good – it’s interesting and there are a lot of actors that I like in it. The best part is there are four seasons of it. Hello, binge watching.
What I’m listening to…
Some recent favorites: this acoustic version of Ultralife by Oh Wonder, this song by James Arthur, and just good old country radio. Something about sunny weather makes me love country even more! :)
Hope you all had a great long weekend!
