When my friend Christina got these Allbirds Wool Runners she told me I had to try them. Since we’re the same size, I got to try hers and I was instantly wowed by how comfortable they are. I had seen the ads allllll over my Facebook newsfeed but I figured they were exaggerating the comfort. My honest opinion is that they truly are the most comfortable shoes ever. The are certainly hyped but they definitely live up to it. Well deserved, Allbirds.
Nordstrom has a pop-in featuring Allbirds right now so if you’re in a city with a pop-in, definitely go check these out in store. I’m a firm believer in trying before buying but for those of you that can’t check it out in store, it’s still worth ordering a pair or two online. They’re that good. Also, it’s free shipping and returns so why not? Here’s the online pop-in page. It’s available until May 20th.
P.S. This is not sponsored in any way and I bought these with my own money! I have worked with Nordstrom Pop-Ins in the past but not this time.
*Note on jeans: these are the exact pair I have but this year’s version, so it has some more distressing. I feel like Uniqlo’s jeans are underrated and highly recommend them because they are so soft and can we talk about how affordable they are?! These are on sale for only $20 now. I love the slight distressing.
Peep the Space Needle in the background!! We have a pretty sweet view from our rooftop!
What Allbirds Feel Like
Jared and I both got the Allbirds Wool Runners (he has the Sage color) which seem to be the most popular design I’ve seen “in the wild”. They’re a simplistic design with no fuss laces and a soft, comfortable tongue. There’s no logo except for a very faint Allbirds script on the back sole. Now how do they feel? They’re extremely lightweight. The closest comparison I can think of are Toms. (I used to wear those “shoes” back in high school and Allbirds make them feel like stilettos. These are far more comfortable and supportive.)
Walking in Allbirds feels like you’re stepping on memory foam. It is incredibly comfortable yet it doesn’t feel like you’re sacrificing support for comfort. The merino wool that they’re made from feel fuzzy to the touch. Even the shoelaces feel nice…they’re kind of squishy and this thick round lace. The reason why they feel different than your standard shoelace is because they’re made from recycled material!
Why Are Allbirds So Special?
The brand is all about producing the world’s most comfortable shoe with also a low impact on the environment. The shoelaces are made from recycled water bottles, they use less energy than synthetic made shoes, and their packaging uses recycled cardboard. The merino wool is supposedly dirt resistant and the padded insole wicks away moisture (you can wear them without socks!) and reduces odor. You can also throw the shoes in the washing machine to get them clean again – just don’t put them in the dryer. Ultimately their website tells the most – scroll down on this product page and you can read about all the benefits of wool shoes.
What Size Should I Get? I’m a half size in shoes.
If you’re a half size like me, then get the next size up since they do not have half sizes. I wear a womens 7.5 and a size 8 is great. They may actually feel snug even with a very thin sock or barefoot but that’s okay! These shoes will stretch out slightly with wear so don’t worry if they’re not perfect right off the bat. The good part is these don’t need breaking in so even if they’re feeling a little snug at first, you can rest easy that they’re going to be comfortable.
I’m sure I’ll be wearing these in many more posts so hopefully you don’t get sick of them! :) I get a ton of search engine traffic still from my posts about my Adidas Stan Smiths (this post especially) – so I’m curious to see if people are as interested in Allbirds info! Jared also got a pair so I’m trying to convince him to share his thoughts about the shoes on here next. Since we travel often I think we will be putting these to the test when we really walk a lot so I’ll be sure to share more after our next trip. (We’re going somewhere in just a few weeks!)
Let me know if you have any questions!! Don’t forget to check out the pop-in if you want to see them in person. I got a free tote bag and an extra pair of colored laces at the pop-in which was fun. (I got blush pink and they are SO cute.) If you’re on the fence, I really think trying a pair will help convince you. If you buy them and you change your mind within 30 days, they will take them back no questions asked too.
